Kikusui Shiroki Tenryu Honjyozo Nigori Sake
NAGANO KIKUSUI
Kikusui Shiroki Tenryu Honjyozo Nigori Sake gives off a robust rice aroma with a creamy palate. Its gentle sweetness and umami flavours stand out when served hot, contrary to most unfiltered sakes recommended chilled. It pairs excellently with bonito flakes udon, okonomiyaki, and avocado and tofu salad.
With accolades such as the 2016 National Hot Sake Contest Highest Gold Medal, 2017 National Hot Sake Contest Gold Medal, and the KURA MASTER Gold Award, its quality speaks volumes. At the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2021, the Honjozo Nigorizake Hakuki Tenryu clinched the Gold Medal in the Honjozo category and earned the Great Value Sake distinction, marking its global ascent since its inception in 1968.
About the Sake brewery:
Kikusui Brewery is the sole remaining sake producer in Shimoina, Minami-Shinshu, Nagano Prefecture, a region that once flourished with 37 breweries. Despite many consolidating during the Pacific War, Kikusui persisted, hold on to its rich heritage.
The brewery's name, "Kikusui," stems from a historic brand dating back to the Meiji era (1868-1912), honoured by merging companies. Nestled in Iida, Minami-Shinshu, the town overlooks the Tenryu River, situated amid the scenic Southern and Central Alps. Embracing the adage, "Shinshu's nature epitomizes sake brewing," Kikusui utilizes Nagano Prefecture's sake-suitable rice, icy mountain waters from the Central Alps, and time-honored techniques to craft its sake.
