AOKI SHUZO THE SAKE BREWERY
Yukiotoko (Snow Yeti) takes its name from the mythical creature described in Hokuetsu Seppu (Snow Stories of North Etsu Province), a late-Edo bestseller written by Bokushi Suzuki, a merchant, author, and ancestor of the brewery, born in Shiozawa in 1770. The book vividly portrays the snowy life and rich culture of Uonuma, the birthplace of Yukiotoko. This junmai sake reflects that heritage with a dry, crisp profile, balanced by the umami depth of rice and a refreshing finish. Versatile and timeless, it can be enjoyed chilled or warm, pairing beautifully with a wide range of dishes.
About the Sake brewery:
Located in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, one of Japan’s snowiest regions. Established in 1717, the brewery has been crafting sake continuously for over 300 years. While Niigata is famous for Tanrei-Karakuchi, a light, elegant, and dry style, AOKI SHUZO aims to create Tanrei-Umakuchi, which preserves the pure umami of sake rice while maintaining elegance. Their centuries-old recipes are carefully handed down to ensure a timeless sake experience that honours tradition and delights modern palates.
