In round one, contestants are challenged to create the perfect bite and impress Chef Kono with a dish that both represents their background and uses Japanese fermented seasonings to bring out its umami.
Three chefs with diverse backgrounds face off in a battle to unlock umami flavors
using Japanese ingredients and fermented seasonings.
What dishes will they create? And who will emerge victorious?
The battle will be judged by Chef Kono from popular New York yakitori restaurant Kono.

In round two, our host, Mamrie, unveils the secret ingredient: Japanese scallops. Contestants must create an umami-packed dish featuring these Japanese delicacies. And after this round... one chef will be sent home!

“The Signature Dish”
In the final round, the two finalists are free to create whatever they want — as long as they feature Japanese ingredients and fermented seasonings to maximize the umami! Who will become the first champion of Umami Match? Don't miss the exciting, delicious conclusion!
